Question

I have tried to explain several times to one of my son's health care providers that children with CdLS have slow weight gain. She doesn't seem to believe me and is concerned that he has recently lost a few ounces. Any advice on what I say to reassure her?

Answer of our experts

Children with CdLS appear to gain weight at their own rate, regardless of the amount of calories consumed. Additional calories do not seem to make a difference, and may fill them up. Overall they seem to have a high basal metabolic rate and a slim body habitus. They do grow steadily in height and weight, although of course, remain small throughout life.
