Our goal
De stichting WaihonaPedia is een non-profit organisatie welke het internet platform WaihonaPedia ontwikkeld en het beheer ervan organiseerd.
WaihonaPedia is een online kennisbank voor zeldzame aandoeningen, waaraan wereldwijd een groot aantal auteurs meeschrijft. Zij doen dit allemaal op vrijwillige basis. Veel van deze schrijvers, meestal lid van een nationale groep rond een zelfzame aandoening, verbeteren af en toe een spelfout. Maar er zijn ook veel van deze mensen die voelen dat zonder hun hulp er te weinig bekend is over hoe je een fijn leven kunt organiseren voor een famililid of bekende met zo'n zeldzame aandoening. Voor hen wordt het een passie, een essentiele bijdrage. Zij passen de inhoud van deze kennisbank aan. Al deze vrijwilligers samen noemen we de 'vrijwilligers-gemeenschap' of zelfs 'burger wetenschappers'!
Zo zijn er (gepensioneerde) gepassioneerde academici, ouders, familileden, onderwijzers, verzorgers en supporters. Vaak zijn het mensen die op de een of andere manier met zo'n zeldzame aandoening in aanraking zijn gekomen, maar dat hoeft helemaal niet. De belangrijkste motivaties zijn het delen van kennis, het opdoen van kennis, uit idealisme omdat het zo nodig is en gewoon 'omdat het leuk is'.

What we do
Practical
WaihonaPedia is legally owned by the WaihonaPedia Foundation, a Dutch non-profit foundation . The organization is based in 's-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands, but has a few partners internationally who deal mainly with the software, servers, administration and legal issues to make the WaihonaPedia platform possible.It makes the platform available free of charge to participants anywhere in the world.
Costs
The WaihonaPedia Foundation is funded by the national groups around the disorders. These contribute the money needed to keep the platform available. Using this money, the foundation conducts activities to keep the platform working and resolve technical failures.The software written for WaihonaPedia is open source software that is also used to implement innovations deemed important by users. The services for this are typically Development, Construction, Testing, Architecture and Consulting. Revenue for these activities is obtained through projects often funded by the government (project grant) and by national groups around the disorders
